Broadneck Boys Bounce Back, Top Northeast

Broadneck boys bounce back from Tuesday's loss to Chesapeake to beat Northeast, 12-3.

The Broadneck boys lacrosse team are back in the win column after defeating Northeast, 12-3.

A 5-4 loss to Chesapeake on Tuesday served as an early bump in the road for the Bruins, now 2-1 in the county. Three goals from seniors James Mullis and Antonio Mazzeo propelled Broadneck at home on a chilly Friday night.

"I think we had two good practices after Tuesday and that was a good sign," Broadneck coach Clay White said.

Mullis had the Bruins on the board just over a minute into the game, with a feed from Mazzeo. Northeast would need only 27 seconds to tie the game back up, before Mazzeo and Mullis would tally to give Broadneck a 3-1 advantage after one quarter.

Midfielder Zach Franco gave Broadneck a big boost with two goals in 19 seconds to end the second quarter, as the Bruins took a 7-2 lead into the break. Mazzeo added his second and third goals in the third quarter.

Juniors Blake Thomas and Tyler Robinson hooked up for a pair of goals, as Robinson fed Thomas near the end of the third quarter and 25 seconds into the fourth.

"It was a nice win," White said. "It was nice to get our feet back on the ground."
Bruins walked away with a comfortable 12-3 win, but coach White knows there is still plenty of room to improve.

"We've got to shoot the ball a heck of a lot better than we're doing," White said. "If we're unselfish with the ball, then we can be pretty good, but sometimes we're not very unselfish with it."

Broadneck plays Southern on Tuesday and then travels to defending state champion Severna Park on Thursday.

"It's going to be a fun week," White said.
