Broadneck High Grad Wins National Title in Lacrosse

Senior All-American Tokosch ends college career with second crown at Division III power Salisbury.

Collin Tokosch, as a standout athlete at Broadneck High School, narrowed his final college choices to Ohio State, Albany and Salisbury.

In the end he decided to attend Salisbury and play men's lacrosse.

"I just loved it," he said of visiting Salisbury. "I loved the team, and coach (Jim) Berkman was great. The program is the best in Division III."

"I wanted a chance to win national championships," added Tokosch, a resident of Arnold.

And that is what happened. As a freshman Tokosch was part of the team at Salisbury that won a national title in lacrosse. And this past Sunday, in the last game of his All-American college career, senior defender Tokosch started for the Sea Gulls as they beat Tufts, 16-7, at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore for the Division III crown.

He had one groundball in the game as Salisbury won its ninth national title and ended the year 21-1 overall.

"After we lost in the title game last year (to Tufts), it really did not matter who we played," Tokosch told Patch on Wednesday from Ocean City. "We looked at it as another team in our way of winning a national championship. We played awesome, and as a team."

"The fact it was Tufts was in the back of the minds of some guys. We used that as motivation. It did not matter to us who we played. We were confident," he added.

The 6-foot-3 Tokosch  was a CAC all-academic team member in 2009. Last year he was an ECAC Division III All-Metro/South Region All-Star, a second team All-American by USILA and all-CAC first team. This year he was all-CAC once again and was also named an All-American.

He graduated last month with a major in marketing and a minor in communications at the school on the Eastern Shore.

His brother, Alec, played lacrosse for the junior varsity team at Broadneck High this past season as a freshman. Another brother, Drew, went to high school at Mount St. Joseph's and is now a student at Salisbury.

Their father, Jay, played baseball at Glen Burnie High and their mother, Ann, was a swimmer in high school. Tokosch, after some time at the beach, plans to work for his father's company, Core-Apps, this summer.
