Broadneck High is Licensing Spot for Waterfowl Hunters

Hunting season for waterfowl begins Aug. 7, and is the official licensing location for the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (MDNR).

Hunters looking to harvest waterfowl are required to secure their spots through licensing. So-called "blind site" lottery drawings, administered by the MDNR ensure everyone has a fair chance to pick their favorite spots.

"Each state blind site license is attached to a designated spot in Maryland waters where hunters may anchor their boats to harvest waterfowl," according to a press release from MDNR.

In Anne Arundel County, the line for lotteries will be from 7:30-8 a.m. on Aug. 7 at the Broadneck High School cafeteria in Arnold.

After Aug. 7, hunters must visit the MDNR's center for licensing.

All applicants must present a 2011-2012 or 2012-2013 Maryland resident hunting license in order to participate in the lottery drawing and licensing process. Landowners, or those with written permission of a landowner who want to license their own properties, are exempted.

Applicants also must present their Maryland driver’s license or other photo ID to verify identification and residency.

“The cloudy, windy, rainy conditions keeps the birds low in flight and gets them to fly shorter distances. Then they are easier to get," he said.
