Centrowitz Champion of the 5th Avenue Mile in NYC

The local athlete has been making a name for himself in running circuits across the world.

Hometown star track-and-field runner Matt Centrowitz, 22, took the top finish in Monday's New York Road Runners' 5th Avenue Mile run.

Arnold's hometown champion scored first place with a photo-finish of 3 minute 52 seconds in what running-enthusiast website Competitor called Centrowitz' first-ever professional road run.

Centrowitz, a native of New York, is fresh from competing overseas in the London 2012 Olympic Games, where he placed fourth, narrowly missing a bronze medal for the mens 1,500 meter run.

He and his family, including former Olympic athlete Matt Centrowitz, Sr., reside in Arnold, where they saw hometown support during the Olympics with banners of "CentroNation" appearing across town. Centrowitz is a 2009 graduate of Broadneck High School.
