Former Broadneck High Track and Field Star Announces He's Turning Pro
Matthew Centrowitz will reportedly forgo his last year of eligibility at University of Oregon.
Former track and field star announced earlier this week that he will skip his final year of eligibility at the University of Oregon to become a professional athlete, according to a report in The Baltimore Sun.
that Centrowitz, who is a sociology major, hoped to graduate from Oregon and begin a professional track and field career with an eye on gaining a sponsor. Centrowitz won three state cross country titles while at Broadneck High.
The 22-year-old appears to be right on track with his career goals, which reportedly include trying to qualify for the 2012 Olympics. He's already accomplished many other goals this year including winning the 1,500-meter event at the NCAA Championships and the USA Track & Field title.

Centrowitz also became the youngest American ever to win a medal in the 1,500-meter event, when he finished third at the IAAF World Track and Field Championships in South Korea, according to The Baltimore Sun.
