Lady Bruins Too Much For Northeast

Broadneck girls dominate Eagles to the tune of 17 first-half goals.

It took Alli Dawson only 15 seconds to put her team ahead. She and the rest of the Lady Bruins never looked back. Broadneck, now 3-0 in county play, delivered a dominant performance on Friday, defeating Northeast 19-3.

Dawson and Addison Deaton each scored three goals for the Bruins, who were never really threatened by their opponents.

"I think it's coming along," Broadneck coach Karen Tengwall said. "Each day we've got to keep working hard, we've got to keep pushing each other, we've got to keep doing the same things."

Northeast's Courtney Woolford did all she could for the Eagles, scoring all of her team's goals, but it was far too little. Senior goalie Julia Burns recorded four saves for the Bruins, while Natalee Easthom stopped two shots after taking over for Burns in the second half.

The Broadneck attack demonstrated its ability to share the ball, racking up 12 assists. Senior Paige Duncan led the Bruins with four assists, while Deaton added three of her own.

The most impressive part of Broadneck's victory may have been its start to the second half. Nearly ten minutes ran off the clock as the Lady Bruins passed and cut, back and forth, possessing the ball, before Duncan made it 18-2 at the 14:31 mark in the second half.

"We were just trying to maintain possession, just trying to get our offense moving," Tengwall said.

With many of the Broadneck starters resting in the second half and an emphasis on working the ball, the final 25 minutes finish a quiet 2-1 in the Bruins favor. Sophomore midfielder Jackie Lovett capped off the lopsided victory with a goal at the 3:05 mark, as the Bruins won 19-3.

The Lady Bruins will now face arguably their toughest week all season, as they host Southern on Tuesday and then travel to face rival Severna Park on Thursday.

"We're just going to have to do our best to maintain intensity," Tengwall said. "I think that's going to be the key, remaining intense and playing confident."

Note:

The game at Severna Park was originally scheduled for Friday, April 8, but has been moved to a day ahead.
