Local Favorite Centrowitz On Track for Success in Moscow International Race

Broadneck Graduate Matt Centrowitz is poised for victory at the upcoming international championship race in Moscow.

Local running sensation Matt Centrowitz will compete with the world's best runners starting Sunday at the 2013 IAAF Outdoor World Track and Field Championships in Moscow.

And based on his times in previous meets this year, the Broadneck High School graduate is poised for success after narrowly missing a bronze medal in the 2012 London Summer Olympic Games.

Centrowitz achieved a 3:36.51 time in a 1500 meter race earlier this year, placing him at the top of the charts among the USA entrants, according to LetsRun.com.

The running website also said they had the most confidence in Centrowitz in the upcoming race.

"He’s by far the most consistent of the three and seemingly isn’t ever a mental head case. This kid has ice in his veins and is always a savvy racer," according to the website.

Centrowitz grew up in Arnold, and spent his high school years at Broadneck High School.

During the Olympics in 2012, a wellspring of support could be seen around town, as signs bearing the slogan "Centronation" appeared on Ritchie Highway and elsewhere.
