PHOTO: Obama Honors Olympians, Including Farrah Hall

Local Olympian Farrah Hall was invited to the White House to hear the president speak.

Cape St. Claire's own Olympian Farrah Hall took a trip to the White House this week to hear President Barack Obama speak with Team USA's Olympic and Paralympic teams.

Hall posted a photo gallery of pictures she took of the event on her Facebook page, where she was mere feet from Obama. She also scored a hilariously up-close shot of Vice President Joe Biden.

Team USA's athletes were honored for their participation and success in the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Obama told the athletes they were the country's ideal representatives, according to a release from The White House.

"One of the great things about watching our Olympics is we are a portrait of what this country is all about—people from every walk of life, every background, every race, every faith," the president said. "It sends a message to the world about what makes America special. It speaks to the character of this group, how you guys carried yourselves. And it’s even more impressive when you think about the obstacles that many of you have had to overcome not just to succeed at the games, but to get there in the first place."

Obama joked that watching the athletes' performances made him a little self-conscious of his own workout routine.

"I usually work pretty late, but I've mastered the DVR, so I was able to capture a little bit of everything. It was a great way to end the day to watch you guys do things that I did not think were humanly possible. So every morning when Michelle and I would work out, we'd talk about, 'Did you see that thing? That was unbelievable.' And then I'd, you know, jog on the treadmill," Obama said.

A video of both Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama giving their speeches can be seen on YouTube.

Hall is taking a breather after competing in windsurfing in the Olympics. Right now she's hanging around the Cape, but has already dedicated herself to training for the next summer games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.

However, by the time those games roll around, windsurfing will likely be replaced by kiteboarding.

Hall told Patch that would be an awkward transition, but it's one she's determined to succeed in.
