Two AACC Teams Capture Region Championships
The community college's womens lacrosse and softball teams had big wins this month.

Two of Anne Arundel Community College’s women’s teams returned from their respective Region XX Tournaments with championship plaques and births to NJCAA National Tournaments.
The top seeded Pioneer women’s lacrosse team captured their third consecutive region title with a 19-9 victory over Harford Community College. AACC advanced to the championship contest with a 20-10 victory over tournament host CCBC – Essex in the semi-finals.

Through the two game tournament the Pioneers received scoring from eight different players. Meghenn Jackson and Shannon O’Neal led the Pioneers with nine goals and two assists each. Kayla Hertz netted seven goals with one assist in the two contests. Sara Boothe and Ashlynn Parks scored five and four goals respectively with each tallying an assist. Brittany Leabhart and Tyler Hebb each added two goals while Jordyn Childress scored once. Brittani Biddinger accumulated 18 saves for the tournament. AACC’s defense held their two opponents to 19 goals to give the Pioneers a 20 goal differential.
The Pioneers will now prepare for the national tournament which is being hosted by Monroe Community College in Rochester, NY on May 11th and 12th. The tournament includes AACC, Region XX runner-up Harford CC, top ranked Monroe CC and second ranked Onondaga CC.

AACC’s women’s softball team also repeated as Region XX champs coming from the loser’s bracket to capture the title.
The resilient Pioneer team had to beat top seeded Montgomery College in back to back games and they rose to the occasion. In the first game AACC topped Montgomery 6-2 forcing the final elimination game for each team. In a tight championship game the Pioneers prevailed with a 4-3 victory to win their second consecutive region title.
The AACC softball team will have the week to prepare for their national tournament trip which will be held at McQuillan Softball Complex in Rochester, Minnesota from May 16-18.
