Cape Organization Preps for Spree of Summer Festivals

The Strawberry Festival and Fourth of July Parade are just around the corner.

Summer will be here sooner than you think. Volunteers at the Cape St. Claire Improvement Association are well underway in planning festivals and parades to line the streets with activity.

The first up is the Cape St. Claire Strawberry Festival on June 1. The annual parade will begin at 10 a.m. at the Volunteer Fire Department, and extend to the Cape Beach for festivities at 11 a.m. Last year's event was a big hit.

This year the Cape will also host a Fourth of July Parade, and volunteers are actively seeking the next grand marshal.

Kathleen Mooneyhan told Patch they hope the marshal can be someone who embodies patriotism in the community.

"It would be wonderful to showcase our community service members," Mooneyhan said.

Participants of the parade may be honored in categories such as "most patriotic" and "most entertaining." There also will be games, and a barbeque competition.

Anyone interested in more information, or with a suggestion for the grand marshal, is urged to contact Mooneyhan, the CSCIA events coordinator, via email.
