PHOTOS/VIDEO: Arnold Relay for Life Event Tops $200K

Last weekend's Arnold/Annapolis Relay for Life event drew more than 1,000 to the county fairgrounds.

On Friday, the annual Arnold/Annapolis Relay for Life brought together the community for 14 hours of sleep-free festivities, friendship and fundraising—all to benefit the American Cancer Society.

So far, more than $221,000 has been raised as a result of sponsorships and donations for the relay. More than 1,000 people turned out for the event.

For Kim Gramza, event organizer, the relay is a way to give back to the community and help spread the word about cancer research.

"It's so important to me to go out there and do something," Gramza said. "I don't like sitting on the sidelines."

Many teams participated in a pre-walk "purple glove dance," to the Journey song "Don't Stop Believing" (see YouTube video).
