Volunteers Needed: Tutors, Event Help and Basketball Officials

Patch offers some volunteer opportunities in Anne Arundel County and nearby Bowie for those looking to give back to the community.

The Caring Collection Inc.
Volunteers needed for Caring Collection Annual Studio Sale on Nov. 5 and 6 from noon to 5 p.m. at 1692 North Harbor Court in Annapolis. Anne Arundel County Public Schools AVID Tutoring Program (countywide)
The Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) Tutoring Program needs volunteers to act as tutors who could commit to at least one semester of tutoring at one of the AVID sites for a minimum of one hour per week, during the regular school day. National Electronics Museum
The museum near BWI Airport needs volunteers (age 14 and older) on the weekdays and weekends for education and outreach, for special events, as an administrative assistant, as collections assistants and for visitor services. Volunteers with soldering experience needed to help with program about manmade satellites where participants will build a sensor unit on Nov. 12. Annapolis Half Marathon

Kyle Bennett/Bowie Community Center Fall Pick-up Classic
Volunteers (ages 21 and older) are needed to officiate a basketball tournament to be played Nov. 19 from 2 to 10 p.m. at the . An orientation for volunteers will be held on Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. Volunteers must have knowledge of the rules of basketball (or a willingness to learn), be able to work in a fast-paced environment, able to work before a large audience and have good customer service skills.
