Weekend Preview: Kites, Earth Day, Boats

It's a busy weekend in Broadneck. Here are all the big events listed in one place.

There's so much going on this weekend in and around Broadneck, I've put it all in one place so no one misses out on the great events.

I'll be in and out of these this weekend, taking pictures to put on the site. Let's just hope rain doesn't spoil all the fun.

What: When: Noon Saturday
Where:

Fly a Kite at Broadneck Park on Saturday. The first-ever Kite Festival starts at noon at Broadneck Park. Bring your own kite, or buy one for $5 at the park. There will also be a picnic lunch.

The Kite Festival will double as a chance for the , a community group started by McGuirk-Allison, to spread the word about their effort to raise funds to restore the park's playground.

What: Outdoor Festival
When: 9 a.m. Saturday
Where: 

Broadneck High School (BHS) will be hosting its second Outdoor Festival on Saturday. There will be music, educational displays, vendors, crafts, guided nature hikes, free garden soil testing, recycling services, and more. The event is sponsored by the BHS Environmental Club will be something for the whole family. 

Families are urged to bring any batteries, compact florescent light bulbs, and cell phones for recycling.

Where: 

The ninth annual Earth Day Festival is Saturday in Severna Park, and several Arnold and Broadneck green thumbs will be there.

Hosted by the Greater Severna Park Watershed Action Group, highlights of the day include rain barrel sales, rain garden demonstrations, exhibits from Fuel Cell Vehicle, solar energy, live (adoptable) animals, games and crafts on how you and your family can help improve the local environment.

What: Scouting for Food
When: 8 a.m. Saturday
Where: Throughout Broadneck

The Boy Scouts of America will be picking up bags for the Scouting for Food service project on Saturday. Bags were distributed throughout the past few weeks and filled by volunteers with essential goods such as soup, tuna, fruit and vegetables. The foods will be donated to local food pantries, food banks and feeding programs.

Donated food should be put out near the mailbox or doorstep early Saturday, typically by 8 a.m.

Where: Bay Bridge Marina (Kent Island)

More than 200 boats of all shapes and sizes are being readied for display in the Chesapeake Bay for the Bay Bridge Boat Show.

The 30th annual boat show is located just across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge from Broadneck in Stevensville. In addition to all the boats, there will be a number of marine-related exhibitors showing off their latest wares and more.
