4 Day Trips You Can Plan for Memorial Day

Didn't plan a whole weekend away? Here are a few places where you can go to for just the day.

Not everyone plans a getaway for Memorial Day weekend. But if you don't want to be stuck in the house with the kids for three days, a solidly-planned day trip with the family may do you some good. To avoid traffic, don't travel Friday evening through Saturday morning and Sunday evening through Monday. Which leaves Saturday and Sunday as days to take one of these day trips. There's lots to do Memorial Day weekend in Annapolis. You could take a boat out onto the water, feast on crabs, or check out a free concert. If you go you may want to take a look at the hours of operation of the museums you might want to visit and plan your day around that since some places may be closed this weekend. However, City Dock is open, full of shops, …

Students in Anne Arundel County are learning personal finance skills with the help of a computer program.

Kids across Anne Arundel County are being introduced to computer technology earlier in life, and schools in Maryland are trying to teach kids how to afford the smartphones, laptops and flatscreen televisions they want with lessons on personal finances. In 2010, the Maryland State Department of Education started requiring schools to provide financial education, beginning in September 2011. Each jurisdiction in the state was tasked with implementing the un-funded requirements. Junior Achievement of Central Maryland (JACMD) has helped area schools meet the requirement, and now students in Anne Arundel County are learning how to save and spend with the computer program JA Finance Park. "It's very important for children to have the opportunity …
