Broadneck High Girls Lacrosse Seize State Title

The girls team beat Sherwood in a 21-5 blowout on Wednesday night.

Broadneck High School's girls lacrosse team became the new Class 4A/3A state champions on Wednesday night, beating Sherwood High School, 21-5. According to the Severna Park Voice, the score was the highest in state finals history, with a total of 14 different players recording goals in the game, including all eight seniors on the team. YouTube member Gary Adornato posted a video of the team being interviewed after the game. "This season for us has been one that you could have written a storybook about," said assistant coach Katie Kelly, noting that the team started off with a 0-2 record. AACC Softball, Women's LAX Compete in National Championships

The community college's womens lacrosse and softball teams both finished their seasons with national tournaments.

The following article was submitted to Broadneck Patch by Duane Herr, physical education and athletic assistant at Anne Arundel Community College (AACC). Anne Arundel Community College wraps up spring sports as women’s lacrosse and softball complete their seasons with national championship runs. The women’s lacrosse team at AACC competed in the NJCAA National Championship last week in Rochester, NY, entering the tournament as the No. 2 seed. In the semi-finals the Pioneers matched up against Onondaga CC, which held the slight advantage on paper after defeating AACC back in March. This time; however, the Pioneers gained the upper hand, defeating Onondaga 12-10 and advancing to the title game.   The championship featured AACC against top …

Watch Broadneck Girls LAX Storm the Field After Semifinals Victory

The girls team will head to the state tournament Wednesday.

Broadneck High School's girls lacrosse team won the penultimate game of the season on Saturday night with a 15-5 victory over Catonsville High School. A YouTube video of the girls storming the field after the big win was posted online by Gary Adornato. Adornato also posted video interviews with two Lady Bruins, Aislinn Probst and Ellie McNulty directly after the Saturday game. The BHS team, fresh from winning the Class 3A/4A regional trophy, will head to the state championship against Sherwood High School on Wednesday night at the stadium for University of Maryland at Baltimore County. Wish the Lady Bruins luck!

Longshot Oxbow Wins Preakness Stakes

Orb, the Kentucky Derby winner, finished fourth.

Oxbow, a 15-1 longshot, went nearly wire-to-wire to win the 138th Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Race Course on Saturday giving trainer D. Wayne Lukas the all-time lead in Triple Crown race victories with 14. The bay colt, ridden by 50-year old Gary Stevens and owned by Calumet Farm, took the lead early from Goldencents and won the $1 million Middle Jewel of the Triple Crown by 1 ¾ lengths holding off Itsmyluckyday and Mylute in 1:57.54. Oxbow also ended hopes for a Triple Crown winner for another year. Orb, the winner of the Kentucky Derby, never got started from his No. 1 post position and finished a disappointing fourth. Broadneck Girls LAX Take Region Title

Broadneck now faces Catonsville to determine which team will compete in the state championship.

Broadneck High School's girls lacrosse team triumphed Wednesday night with a 14-13 win over South River High School. The win earned Broadneck the Class 3A/4A regional trophy, and the Lady Bruins will play Catonsville High School on Saturday in the state semifinals with the winner advancing to the title game. The Washington Post reported that Broadneck's goalie Natalee Easthom stopped a shot in the final moments of the game, allowing her team to hold on for the victory.  Patch spoke with Easthom in April about her plans after high school. She'll be playing lacrosse at Northwestern University in the fall. Congratulations to all the Lady Bruins, and good luck against Catonsville on Saturday.

When Is the Preakness?

The 138th running of the Baltimore tradition will be held this Saturday.

We're in the final stretch before the 138th running of the Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore. Here's what you need to know. When is it? The Triple Crown race will be held at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Pimlico. NBC (WRC, WBAL) and Horse Racing Radio Network (WSPZ-AM in Washington is the only area affiliate) will have the call, which will also be streaming on the radio network's website. The first post on the day is at 10:45 a.m. Tickets? They are still available. Infield tickets are $60. Admission to the grandstand starts at $25, with box seats starting at $110. Two AACC Teams Capture Region Championships

The community college's womens lacrosse and softball teams had big wins this month.

The following article was submitted to Broadneck Patch by Duane Herr, physical education and athletic assistant at Anne Arundel Community College (AACC). Two of Anne Arundel Community College’s women’s teams returned from their respective Region XX Tournaments with championship plaques and births to NJCAA National Tournaments. The top seeded Pioneer women’s lacrosse team captured their third consecutive region title with a 19-9 victory over Harford Community College. AACC advanced to the championship contest with a 20-10 victory over tournament host CCBC – Essex in the semi-finals. Through the two game tournament the Pioneers received scoring from eight different players. Meghenn Jackson and Shannon O’Neal led the Pioneers with nine goals …

Broadneck Prepares for Lacrosse Playoffs

Both the Broadneck boys and girls teams will be playing at home in the first round.

The brackets are set and the high school lacrosse postseason will begin on Wednesday. The Broadneck boys are the No. 6 seed and will host 11th-seeded Severna Park. The girls earned the No. 3 seed and will host Annapolis. The boys and girls teams from South River are among the favorites from Anne Arundel County after earning high seeds in the Class 4A/3A East region. Leondardtown is the top seed in the girls East region, while Northern High in Calvert County is the top seed on the boys side.  Here's a look at how other teams from Anne Arundel County are positioned in the 4A/3A bracket.
