The community college's womens lacrosse and softball teams had big wins this month.

Two of Anne Arundel Community College’s women’s teams returned from their respective Region XX Tournaments with championship plaques and births to NJCAA National Tournaments. The top seeded Pioneer women’s lacrosse team captured their third consecutive region title with a 19-9 victory over Harford Community College. AACC advanced to the championship contest with a 20-10 victory over tournament host CCBC – Essex in the semi-finals. The Anne Arundel Community College baseball team put together a nice string of wins after closing March on a tough spell. The Pioneers have won six of their last eight including a pair of sweeps in doubleheaders against College of Southern Maryland and Stevenson University JV. Dating back to early April, the Pioneers (15-23, 6-12 conference) have won the back end of a doubleheader against Garrett and have dropped just two games since that time. Anne Arundel Community College’s men’s lacrosse team enjoyed a successful spring break as they won a pair of road games. On March 19, the Pioneers (3-1) traveled to Northern Virginia Community College for the first of those two games. AACC posted 18 goals and allowed just three to defeat NOVA 18-3. Alex Hutchison led AACC with four goals. Steven Anderson added three goals while Sean Johnston, Ryan Killion, and Eric Crosby each scored two goals. Five others scored one goal as well. Anne Arundel Community College’s baseball team has quickly replaced a five-game losing streak with a three-game winning streak. After starting the season 0-5 the Pioneers won a conference contest against CCBC Essex and swept University of Maryland’s club team to improve to 3-5, 1-0 conference. On Friday the Pioneers traveled to Essex for their first MD JUCO Conference contest of the season. Anne Arundel’s offense erupted for 17 runs to defeat Essex 17-4. The community college's baseball team has had to cancel its first three games due to poor weather.

Anne Arundel Community College’s baseball team is anxious to get their 2013 season underway but Mother Nature has had other plans. The Pioneers have had their first three dates cancelled due to poor weather conditions. AACC was set to kick off their season with a home opener against Stevenson University JV. The doubleheader was scheduled for a noon start on Feb. 17. This past weekend the rainy conditions forced the Pioneers to cancel doubleheaders scheduled for Saturday and Sunday. Coming off of a loss, AACC's team started slow but fought their way back.

The Anne Arundel Community College men's basketball team hosted Cecil College over the weekend and despite their resilience lost the game 82-94. Cecil, who began the season very strong, had just ended an 11-game losing streak and entered the game with an 11-14 overall record and 6-8 MD Juco conference mark. They came out of the gates hot and built a substantial lead early on in the game. The men’s basketball team at Anne Arundel Community College bounced back into the win column with a 79-71 win over a tough Frederick Community College program. The win brings AACC’s record to 11-5 overall and 3-4 in conference play. Riding a four game losing streak, the Pioneers traveled to Frederick for their first of nine consecutive MD JUCO conference contests that will conclude their regular season schedule. AACC's men’s basketball team battled again Saturday evening but came up short in a hard-fought 101-92 loss to Northern Virginia Community College. With the setting sun beaming into the windows of Jenkins Gymnasium at tip-off the Pioneers looked to right the ship, having lost their three prior contests. Early in the first half Anne Arundel (10-5, 2-4 MD JUCO) took a tough blow when starting guard David Abraham went down with an ankle injury. After winning the Onondaga Classic and building a four game win streak, the Anne Arundel Community College men’s basketball team jumped four spots to fifth in the NJCAA Division III polls. Looking to keep their success going and close December play on a positive, the Pioneers matched up against Community College of Allegheny County from Pittsburgh, PA trying for another victory. Despite a 2-7 record, CCAC Allegheny is a constant competitor and proved that Saturday evening against the Pioneers. The college's volleyball team was forced to cancel the remainder of its season due to low player numbers.
Anne Arundel Community College's womens volleyball team has canceled the rest of its season. They simply didn't have enough players on the court, the athletics director said. The minimum number of players required for a volleyball team is six, and AACC's team had seven players at the start of its season. AACC's Athletics Director Bruce Springer would not comment on the current number of players, though he simply said it wasn't enough to play. "Our numbers have just been down since the beginning," Springer said. "We've tried everything we can, but it just hasn't worked. But we're moving forward and looking ahead to next season."
