Anne Arundel County Police Chief Larry Tolliver announced his resignation Tuesday afternoon, in a letter that says the decision was not "stimulated" by negative claims about the department.
After a stretch of less than nine months heading police in Anne Arundel County, Chief Larry Tolliver announced his resignation Tuesday afternoon, as the county awaits the outcome of an investigation into claims of unfair treatment within the department. "I am resigning today because the department needs a chief who can focus solely on the department’s mission, something that is challenging to do in the current environment," Tolliver said in the letter. Tolliver's resignation is effective May 21. Patch contacted the office of County Executive Laura Neuman for information about possible replacements, but she has yet to respond. A man, whom police say was intoxicated, was attempting to pull over a vehicle in Glen Burnie.
An Arnold man faces charges of impersonating an officer and driving while intoxicated, after an Anne Arundel County police officer identified the man's civilian vehicle as he attempted to pull over another vehicle early Sunday. According to police, an officer working an overnight shift saw a black Ford Crown Victoria pulling into the 7-Eleven parking lot at the intersection of Furnace Branch Road East and Point Pleasant Road in Glen Burnie shortly after 2 a.m. The vehicle was reportedly operating a red rotational light on the dashboard, and the driver was attempting to pull over another vehicle. A gunman reportedly shot and killed 27 people at an elementary school in Connecticut.
UPDATE (4:10 p.m.)—In the wake of news that a gunman reportedly shot and killed 27 people at an elementary school in Connecticut, Anne Arundel County police boosted security at all public schools Friday afternoon prior to dismissal. According to Anne Arundel County Public Schools (AACPS) spokesman Bob Mosier, a county police officer was stationed at every school during dismissal. He also said security will remain heightened as children arrive at their schools Monday morning. The shooting occurred Friday morning in Newtown, CT. A man was arrested on assault charges stemming from an incident on Thursday.
An Arnold man was arrested on Thursday after witnesses told police he was acting erratically, banging on doors and yelling profanities. According to a press release from Anne Arundel County police, officers were dispatched to the 600 block of Belle Dora Court in Arnold on Thursday for a reported neighbor dispute. Police said the man came out of his home pointing a shotgun at the officer, who ordered the suspect to put down the shotgun. The man reportedly complied and was taken into custody. Police identified the man as William Wesley Neall, 46, of the 600 block of Belle Dora Court. He faces multiple charges including first- and second-degree assault, assault with a deadly weapon and reckless endangerment, according to the press release. …

Police say they searched the area but were unable to locate the men who fled the scene.
Two male teenagers told police they were assaulted and robbed early Sunday morning. According to a press release from Anne Arundel County police, officers from the eastern district responded to the unit block of Jones Station Road in Arnold at 12:47 a.m. Sunday for a reported robbery. Two boys, ages 13 and 14, told police they were walking in the area when they were approached from behind by several men. The men reportedly assaulted the boys and rifled through their pockets and money was taken from one of the boys. Police were unable to locate the men, who the teens said fled the area in a gray Chrysler 300. Police describe the suspect in the incident that took place on Monday at the Arnold Post Office as a black woman, about 5 feet 2 inches tall with a medium build and dyed red hair.
Anne Arundel County police released photos on Thursday of a person of interest and vehicle that may have been involved in a purse snatching incident that occurred earlier in the week. A woman reported that her purse was stolen in the parking lot of the Arnold Post Office on Monday afternoon. Police described the suspect as a black woman, about 5 feet 2 inches tall with a medium build and dyed red hair. Police say this does not appear to be a random act of violence.
A woman told police she was accosted by a man in the hallway outside her room at a Linthicum hotel on Monday afternoon, but police believe the two were familiar with one another and the incident was not random. Police charged Bryan Edward Bailey, 30, of the 600 block of Southern Hills Drive in Arnold with robbery, false imprisonment, assault, theft and related charges. According to a release from Anne Arundel County police, officers from the northern district responded to the Motel 6 located in the 5100 block of Raynor Avenue in Linthicum for a report of a robbery at about noon on Monday.
