Cape Businesses Hit By Copper Thefts

At least four businesses in Cape St. Claire had copper materials stolen during the weekend, a business owner said.

Several businesses in the Cape St. Claire shopping center reported copper piping and wiring being stolen during the weekend. Broadneck Grill owner Donna Duran said her restaurant, the Pizza Hut, House of Hunan II and Joy Luck IV all discovered copper materials were missing after the weekend. It was reported to Anne Arundel County police on Monday. Police spokesman Justin Mulcahy said Eastern District detectives are currently investigating the crime. "It appears that the incidents are related and all took place on one night," Mulcahy said. Broadneck Grill's copper piping led to the restaurant from propane tanks, which operate most of its kitchen equipment. Saturday was filled with events at the restaurant—both inside and outside.

Partiers gathered at Broadneck Grill and Cantina on Saturday to celebrate the Mexican holiday and also donate funds toward a good cause. The Cinco de Mayo festivities at the Grill were host to a variety of fundraisers. A silent auction was going on throughout the day for special items. Proceeds benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The party wasn't isolated to the tent either. The Cinco de Mayo festivities were spread all around the restaurant.

Watch for 'Supermoon' on Cinco De Mayo

Saturday's full moon will be the largest of the year.

While everyone is celebrating Cinco De Mayo, whether they're at home or partying at the Broadneck Grill and Cantina, be sure you watch the sky for a historically huge moon on Saturday night. On Saturday the moon will become full, and by midnight Sunday morning it will be the closest to Earth it's been all year. This combination will make it appear 16 percent brighter and 12 percent larger than normal. Astronomers are calling it a "supermoon." That will also mean that Saturday night's moon is set to be the largest full moon of the year, according to SPACE.com. Cinco de Mayo Celebration Dedicated to a Good Cause

The Broadneck Grill and Cantina are throwing another huge party in memory of a Cape resident.

Cinco de Mayo festivities at Broadneck Grill and Cantina will kick off at noon on Saturday, with events planned throughout the day to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Lifetime Cape St. Claire resident Lauren Dowling Tyler lost her life last year due to cystic fibrosis. A series of fundraisers will highlight the Broadneck Grill's celebrations this weekend in her memory. It's the second year the restaurant has hosted a massive party in her honor.
