Broadneck History Book In Its Final Stages

The book, titled Arnold, Maryland and Neighbors on the Broadneck, is set for release by May, the author said.

Where did Arnold get its name? Who were the principal personalities associated with Broadneck's origins? When was Cape St. Claire founded? These questions and more are part of an upcoming history book written by local historian Alberta Stornetta, titled Arnold, Maryland and Neighbors on the Broadneck.  It's the first-ever book on Broadneck, and according to Stornetta, it can't be done soon enough. But after a few setbacks soon to be overcome, she said she's hoping for it to hit the stands by April or May. The book is complete, and the designer is more than halfway done, Storentta said. At a community meeting in Arnold on Monday, Stornetta described the book as a labor of love, saying it should be a fun read for anyone who grew up in the …

National Trivia Day: How Well Do You Know Broadneck?

It's National Trivia Day, so we're taking some time to quiz residents on their knowledge of the community.

Everyone loves a pop quiz right?  Wait—before you run away in horror, it's important to know that Friday is National Trivia Day. This makes it a great day to test your knowledge of the area.  Here are 10 questions. Some of them may be easy. Others may require a little bit of research here on Broadneck Patch or elsewhere.  I have some Patch gear that I can deliver to the first person who can provide all of the correct answers in the comments section. If no one gets them all correct, I'll give the prizes to whoever posts the best score.  Question 1: Where did Arnold get its name?  Question 2: Who are the two local Olympians who are also Broadneck High grads? Question 3: Which Anne Arundel County Councilman oversees the Broadneck area? …

Book on Broadneck's History Due in February

Stornetta's work began with focusing only on Arnold, but after hearing the stories of other communities, she broadened the scope of her work to the entire Broadneck peninsula.

Arnold, Maryland and Neighbors on the Broadneck, a history book capturing the story of the various communities of the Broadneck peninsula, is set to be published in February. The book is written by Arnold historian Alberta Stornetta, who has spent the past seven years gathering pieces of history together order to create the first definitive book on the area. Some excerpts from the book have been published online, including a section telling the story of how Arnold got its name. Stornetta's work began with focusing only on Arnold, but after hearing the stories of other communities, she broadened the scope of her work to the entire Broadneck peninsula, including Cape St. Claire. In an interview with Patch in January, Stornetta said the book …

Resident Writes First-Ever History Book of Arnold

A local author has set a date for later this year to publish her collection of Arnold's history.

Before the year is over, Arnold will get its first history book. Alberta Stornetta, a longtime resident of Broadneck, has been diligently gathering pieces of history together for seven years in order to formulate the first definitive book on Arnold. “This is going to be the year of the book,” Stornetta said. “We plan to put Arnold on the map.” The tentative title of the book is Arnold, Maryland: The Little Post Office that Grew. However, Stornetta has said the title may change to encompass all of Broadneck, depending on how much material she can assemble. Stornetta began work on the book seven years ago after being asked by Asbury Church to put together its history. “One of our parishioners told people I was an expert on Arnold history. …
