Anne Arundel County police are executing a plan designed to decrease traffic injuries and fatalities.

Police across the state of Maryland are looking to take drunk drivers off the road as people celebrate the New Year. The holiday is annually one of the worst days of the year for drunk driving arrests. But this year, the holiday comes shortly after a devastating year in Anne Arundel County that left many pedestrians dead and more seriously injured in 40 days. Police have had to respond and help prevent serious accidents throughout 2012: In response to traffic-related deaths and injuries, the Anne Arundel County Police Department announced the "Thirty-Five to Save Lives" campaign, which started on Dec. 10 and will continue through Jan. 7. Rash of Vehicle Break-Ins Plague Broadneck

Authorities are still searching for a suspect involved in a series of vehicle break-ins earlier in December.

Broadneck residents have reported a string of vehicle break-ins over the past month, and authorities are still searching for suspects. On Dec. 6, Anne Arundel County police were sent to the Foxmoor community in Arnold for a report of a suspicious person, according to police spokesman Justin Mulcahy. An officer saw a light on in a car on Norton Lane and found a man inside who immediately fled. The suspect has not yet been located. At the scene, officers found several electronic items, including GPS devices, that were determined to have been stolen in several thefts from vehicles in the nearby community, Mulcahy said. These items were then returned to their owners. I reached out on Facebook to see if other Patch readers had experienced break…

We had someone break into a car in our neighborhood (Hunter's Pointe) a month ago. Interesting that it is making headlines now. So it seems these break ins are up and down the peninsula. There was a purse snatching at the post office and a robbery on Jones Station. sure would be nice if we had cops drive around the neighborhood instead of handing out speeding tickets   more ›

6 months jail time for taking someone's life driving drunk is a short sentence. I'm amazed and know nothing about the different judges but I'll be sure to take note of Judge Hackner's name....that's something to remember come election time. They say that living with the guilt for a lifetime is a sentence in itself. Hogwash- when it's your loved one that was taken from you by a drunk driver, I don…   more ›

I hate to agree with W.L. but if you've looked at the BGE outage map for Arnold/Broadneck Peninsula the past (4) years at every event, the picture is not pretty. All you have to do is see how many people own generators in our vicinity you have to ask why so many people feel the need to own one. Three long term outages in 12 months, that's a bad track record. You can blame the storms or you can …   more ›
