A four-vehicle accident early Thursday morning in Arnold sent two people to the hospital. Anne Arundel County firefighters responded to the intersection of College Parkway and Shore Acres Road at about 7:30 a.m. Thursday to find a wreck involving multiple vehicles. Two people were injured in the accident, sustaining minor injuries, according to Anne Arundel County Fire Department Division Chief Keith Swindle. Both were transported to Anne Arundel Medical Center by ambulance.

Emergency officials reported more than 60 auto accidents Thursday morning, including a fatal collision in Gambrills.
Icy roads caused major problems on roadways in Anne Arundel County Thursday morning and may have contributed to a fatal crash in Gambrills. Anne Arundel County police reported 60 accidents between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. Thursday morning, creating delays on nearly every major roadway including Interstate 97, Route 50 in Broadneck and Route 100. At least one person died in a crash near Waugh Chapel Drive and Silver Way in Gambrills. Preliminary information from police indicates that a cement truck collided with a car at about 7:45 a.m. There was no initial information on the identity of the victim or the condition of any other passengers. Anne Arundel County police are executing a plan designed to decrease traffic injuries and fatalities.
Police across the state of Maryland are looking to take drunk drivers off the road as people celebrate the New Year. The holiday is annually one of the worst days of the year for drunk driving arrests. But this year, the holiday comes shortly after a devastating year in Anne Arundel County that left many pedestrians dead and more seriously injured in 40 days. Police have had to respond and help prevent serious accidents throughout 2012: In response to traffic-related deaths and injuries, the Anne Arundel County Police Department announced the "Thirty-Five to Save Lives" campaign, which started on Dec. 10 and will continue through Jan. 7. The National Weather Service predicts a mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain.
It wasn't a white Christmas, but snow started falling around Anne Arundel County on Wednesday. The county is under a winter weather advisory from the National Weather Service (NWS) until 1 p.m. "A winter weather advisory means that periods of snow, sleet or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties," according to the release. "Be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibilities." NWS stated that people should expect a mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain. Forecasters predict that a mix of freezing rain and sleet will continue throughout the afternoon. The advisory extends to Northern Baltimore, Harford, Montgomery, Howard and Prince Georges counties. UPDATE (12:20 p.m.)—Anne Arundel County police are attempting to crack down on distracted driving throughout the area by initiating special enforcement practices, according to a press release. In an effort called “Operation Eagle,” police are seeking to address “the growing problem of distracted driving,” and addressing it in its various forms, such as texting, handling pets or eating while driving, the release stated. “Distracted driving is described as any activity that could divert a person’s attention away from the primary task of driving,” according to the release. “The behavior of texting while driving has shown to be particularly dangerous as it causes drivers to take their eyes off of the road more than other forms of distracted …
