Detectives Call Juvenile Assault Incident 'Unfounded'

The reported incident sent a rallying cry for vigilance throughout Broadneck, but it is now believed to be based on false information, detectives say.

Police are now saying the report of an assault on a 10-year-old boy Friday was based on unfounded information. When the call first came in to police on Friday, it was reported as an attempted abduction of a 10-year-old by a 19- to 23-year-old male, according to a police report obtained by Patch. But by Monday, Anne Arundel County detectives were calling the incident an assault. Now, police spokesman Justin Mulcahy said detectives have concluded the incident was based on false information. "Through further investigation, consisting of additional interviews, detectives have determined the reported incident to be unfounded," Mulcahy said in a statement issued Thursday. Assault on Boy Was Not an Abduction Attempt, Detectives Say

A spokesman says detectives are working to verify the facts as they were reported to police.

Detectives of the Anne Arundel County Police Department said they do not consider the assault on a boy near a playground on Shore Acres Road on Friday to be part of an attempted abduction. Self-Defense Class for Kids Organized After Juvenile Assault

In light of an assault on a child on Shore Acres Road, a new defense class is being taught in Arnold.

The Jing Ying Institute for Martial Arts has established a new self-defense class in light of an incident on Friday where a juvenile was assaulted, according to police. The new class will be taught Oct. 28 at Jing Ying in Arnold, and is geared at children aged 8 to 11, according to a press release. The class is $10 for each child, and they must be accompanied by an adult.  "Let's empower ourselves and our children, and learn the  best ways to stay safe," the release stated. On Friday, a juvenile was grabbed by an adult aged 19-23 on Shore Acres Road. The juvenile fought back by kicking and screaming, which caused the man to flee the scene. Authorities Seek Suspect in Arnold Juvenile Assault

Police say a man grabbed a child on the 400 block of Shore Acres Road, but the juvenile fought back.

Authorities are looking for a suspect who grabbed a juvenile in Arnold, which led to an assault, according to Anne Arundel County police.  For all the latest updates, follow Broadneck Patch on Facebook and Twitter. A juvenile reported to police that he was grabbed by an unknown male suspect, aged 19-23 years old, in the 400 block of Shore Acres Road in Arnold at 7:30 p.m. Friday, according to a press release. Broadneck Elementary School is a few blocks away. Police said the two struggled, and the victim defended himself by kicking and screaming. The suspect then fled on foot.
