A custom shoe was designed for the runner from Arnold.
Former Broadneck High runner Matthew Centrowitz had a Nike shoe designed for him at his most recent race in New York. At the 106th Millrose Games in New York City on Saturday, Centrowitz beat his own record, and placed second in breaking Bernard Lagat's Wanamaker mile record, with a time of 3:51.34, according to the New York Daily News. The time was 2.5 seconds faster than Centrowitz' time at last year's Millrose Games, where he placed first. During the race, Centrowitz wore pink Nike running shoes designed just for him by Nike. The company issued a press release about the shoes a few days before the race, saying they featured customized track spikes. Centrowitz ran in the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London, narrowly missing a bronze …

The Broadneck grad will be running again in the New York indoor track meet.
The 106th Millrose Games in New York City's Armory is one of the largest indoor track meets in the country. Broadneck's Olympic running sensation Matthew Centrowitz recently told Supersport.com that he's prepared and confident about the upcoming meet. The Millrose Games begin Feb. 16 in New York. According to Runnersworld, Centrowitz has told race organizers that he wants to beat the current mile run record, set by Bernard Lagat in 2005, of 3:52.87. When Centrowitz ran at the Armory in 2011 during the IAFF World Championships, he set a time of 3:53.92. But since then, he's earned experience in the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London. Centrowitz narrowly missed a bronze medal in the men's 1,500 meter Olympic final, and has been touring …

Centrowitz placed fourth in the men's 1,500-meter race.
Dozens of Matt Centrowitz fans have written encouraging words after the star runner's fourth-place finish. Matt Centrowitz was just a hair away from a bronze medal finish in Tuesday's finals race in the men's 1,500-meter, but he was four hundredths of a second off from third place. Just before the finals, NBC announcers called Centrowitz "the zen master," of the track, and a master tactician. The 22-year-old, 2007 graduate of Broadneck High School has risen to the international stage over the past year. A few moments after the race, Centrowitz wrote the following emotional message via Twitter: "Wow. Definitely a hard one 2 swallow. Did everything I could & just came up short. Been a few years since Ive cried but couldn't help it lol," he…

With a time of 3:34.90, Centrowitz will compete for a gold medal on Tuesday.
Arnold's Matthew Centrowitz brought the heat to the men's semifinals in the 1,500-meter run, placing fifth and qualifying for the medal race on Tuesday. Minutes after his race, Centrowitz posted to Twitter saying he was moving closer to his Olympic dreams. "One step closer to my dreams!!! #London2012 I have the best family/friends/supporters/fans," Centrowitz wrote. In the semifinals on Sunday, Centrowitz earned fifth with a time of 3:34.90—one tenth of a second later than the fourth-place runner, Nixon Kiplimo Chepseba of Kenya. The Arnold runner's time also was six seconds faster than his preliminary run on Friday, and faster than when he placed third in the world championships in 2011 with a time of 3:36.08. The finals for the 1,500-…

The semifinal race will be Sunday at 3:15 p.m.
Arnold's star track-and-field athlete Matthew Centrowitz will move onto the semifinals after he landed fifth place in Friday's preliminary run. I watched the race live on NBC's iPhone app because NBC wasn't showing track-and-field at the time. Centrowitz ran in the third heat of Friday's preliminaries. He stayed with the middle of the pack for the majority of the race, as runners bunched together. And like a spring, in the final lap all runners stretched out. Nixon Kiplimo Chepseba of Kenya was in the lead for a bit, but tripped just behind Centrowitz in the final lap. The Arnold native then poured it on, gaining several spots before crossing the finish line in fifth place. In the immediate moments after the race, NBC's announcers weren't…
