Pioneers Take 6 of 8 Games in Recent Streak

Patch's AACC correspondent covers recent wins by the Pioneers baseball team.

The following article was submitted to the Broadneck Patch by Duane Herr, Physical Education and Athletic Assistant at Anne Arundel Community College (AACC). The Anne Arundel Community College baseball team put together a nice string of wins after closing March on a tough spell. The Pioneers have won six of their last eight including a pair of sweeps in doubleheaders against College of Southern Maryland and Stevenson University JV. Dating back to early April, the Pioneers (15-23, 6-12 conference) have won the back end of a doubleheader against Garrett and have dropped just two games since that time. AACC Baseball Blasts Through Series With High-Scoring Wins

Anne Arundel Community College’s baseball team has won four of their last five games, outscoring opponents 43-11 in those wins.

The following article was submitted to the Broadneck Patch by Duane Herr, Physical Education and Athletic Assistant at Anne Arundel Community College (AACC). With a victory over Prince George’s Community College on Thursday, Anne Arundel Community College’s baseball team has won four of their last five games, outscoring opponents 43-11 in those wins. Despite giving up a first inning run to PGCC, the Pioneers (4-6, 2-1 conf.) took control of the game early and kept it for the duration. PGCC (1-7, 0-3) would score their second and final run in the fourth inning as AACC pitcher Mark Frost went the distance holding the Owl’s to two runs on four hits. BASKETBALL: AACC Puts Up Fight in Final Home Game

The Pioneers pushed their final home game into overtime, but lost to Harford Community College.

The following article was submitted to the Broadneck Patch by Duane Herr, Physical Education and Athletic Assistant at Anne Arundel Community College (AACC). AACC men’s hoops played their final home game leading into the Maryland JUCO conference tournament, which will begin with first round games next Tuesday, Feb. 12. The Pioneers hosted Harford Community College (11-14 overall, 8-6 MD Juco) in a 7 p.m. contest on Feb. 6. Needing the win to jump up the leaderboard, Anne Arundel (13-10, 5-9) started strong and held a 33-30 lead entering the half. The second half took the trend of a three-point contest as both teams traded buckets from behind the arch. AACC would finish the game shooting 50 percent from three-point land. Despite being down …

AACC Pioneers Triumph as Tourney Champs

AACC men's basketball came home as champions of the 2012 Onondaga Classic.

The following article was submitted to the Broadneck Patch by Duane Herr, Physical Education and Athletic Assistant at Anne Arundel Community College (AACC). Anne Arundel Community College’s men’s basketball team returns home from Syracuse, New York as the 2012 Onondaga Classic Champions. The Pioneers won a pair of games over the weekend to secure the tournament title and improve to 9-1 overall. In their opening round game on December 8 AACC matched up against Mass Bay Community College (8-2) of Wellesley Hills, MA. The Pioneers outlasted Mass Bay 68-66 to advance to the championship contest.    Jalen Lester was the high point man for AACC against Mass Bay with 17 points. Pioneers Prepare for Nationals

AACC women's soccer team heads to Kansas next week.

In a stunning shutout, the AACC Women's Soccer team defeated Cape Fear 2-0 at their home field in North Carolina and advanced to the National Championships in Topeka, KS, to be held November 18th-21st. For the third time in six years, the Pioneers will make an appearance at the Junior College National Championship tournament and take their place among the eight best teams in the country. The AACC team has made it to nationals twice before under Coach Jim Griffiths' leadership and is looking forward to once again going head to head with teams and players from all over the U.S. "The last time we went out, in 2008, we upset the #3 seed and we were #8," said Griffiths of his team's last nationals performance. A Squeaker Win for the Regional Champs

AACC Women's Soccer now goes for District win on Sunday.

After a nail biting, double-overtime win last week at regionals, the women of the Anne Arundel Community College soccer team will advance to the District Championship, a distinction allowed to only sixteen National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) teams throughout the country. On Saturday, October 30th, the AACC Pioneers met the Harford Owls in a Regional Finals match to determine who would advance to Wilmington, NC, for the District Championship against Cape Fear Community College. The game went on for 110 scoreless minutes before the officials decided that the match would come down to penalty kicks (PK's). It was in these final moments that the Pioneers pulled out a victory with their five points to the Owls' three. This match…
