Talk It Out: Fenced-In Flea Market on Ritchie Highway

On Facebook, commenters seemed to be of the same mind, saying the property owner should pack up, or clean the site up.

One of the more popular stories on Severna Park Patch last week was a photo gallery of a controversial fenced-in property alongside Ritchie Highway. The site is often used to sell flowers and Christmas trees, but right now it is not being operated and instead is used to house used furniture. In January, the property's owner Donna Marsh was issued a citation for operating a flea market on the land in violation of county zoning laws. On Facebook, commenters seemed to be of the same mind, saying the property owner should pack up, or clean the site up. Ellen McCourt Scarano: "I doubt the quality of the furniture is very good. I'd prefer the flower stand. It's my prettiest memory of my first days living in this area." Cathy Benjamin Pette: "…

I'm amazed and know nothing about the different judges but I'll be sure to take note of Judge Hackner's name....that's something to remember come election time. They say that living with the guilt for a lifetime is a sentence in itself. Hogwash- when it's your loved one that was taken from you by a drunk driver, I don…   more ›

The Continuing Push for Arnold Trail Park

Arnold Preservation Council fights the rezoning of Ritchie Highway land.

The Anne Arundel County's department of planning and zoning has a busy few months ahead while they review the 156 applications recently submitted for rezoning in the county. In the meantime, civic and environmental groups in the area are gathering to discuss the rezoning applications that could potentially threaten the unique configuration of land, environmental resources, and waterways in the Broadneck region. The Arnold Preservation Council has designated one application to be extremely important for contesting. The owner of the property, located on the edge of development along Route 2 in Arnold bordering the Arnold Station shopping center, has requested a zoning reclassification to enable commercial development on a piece of primarily…
