A new business is coming to Arnold Station in place of The Depot.
Cheers and Spirits, a new wine store under construction in the old spot for The Depot, recently put up its logo outside the shop in Arnold Station. The upcoming business has inherited the location of the former Depot, Fine Wine and Spirits, which closed in January. Since then, talks had swirled among local business owners that another wine vendor had been secured for the location, but no confirmation. The former owner of The Depot, Mike Mangum, who operated the wine store for more than a decade in Arnold, said he chose to leave in January because the owners at Arnold Station had increased their rent. Property owners raised rent by 80 percent, owner says.
The owner of a longtime Arnold business chose to move out of town rather than pay a skyrocketing rent, he said. The Depot Wine & Spirits owner Mike Mangum has been packing the remains of the store's wares since it closed its doors earlier this month. He plans to reopen the store in Annapolis, where he said rent is actually cheaper than Arnold Station shopping center. The new proposed location of The Depot will be in the Gateway Village shopping center, which also houses Safeway and Best Buy, near Defense Highway. One of Arnold's only liquor stores has turned off its lights and will move to Annapolis.
The Depot Wine & Spirits in Arnold Station has closed its doors, with plans to move to the Gateway Village shopping center in Annapolis, according to a notice posted on the storefront. The new location for the store will be 2645-B Housley Rd. Annapolis, MD 21401, which is the former location of Standard Carpet and Flooring. Neighboring tenants said the store had closed the week of Jan. 14. Earlier this month, The Depot announced on its Facebook page that it was hosting a storewide inventory reduction sale, but no notice was given of the move.

Police are seeking the public's assistance in identifying the suspects in the burglaries.
Anne Arundel County police are looking to the public to help identify two suspects in two separate burglary incidents in Arnold in July. The first burglary occurred at Severna Park Golf Center on July 11. A man broke into the business and stole a case and laptop before fleeing the scene, according to a press release from the police department. A video of the incident from surveillance footage recorded in the business was posted on YouTube by the business owner, Rob Brilliant. A separate incident took place at The Depot Wine & Spirits in Arnold on the morning of July 23. Two men broke into and burglarized The Depot Wine & Spirits in Arnold Station early Monday morning, and the owner of the store caught the act on camera. Video surveillance camera footage of the incident, which occurred at about 1 a.m. Monday, was uploaded to YouTube on Tuesday in the hopes that someone would see it on the Internet and help identify the suspects. Store owner Mike Mangum also posted the video to The Depot's website. Mangum reported the incident to the police and said the store is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the two suspects.
