Two Arnold Residents Among 18 Charged in Multi-State Drug Bust

Authorities said money was sewn into handbags and flown with women across the country as payment for drug shipments.

Ten Anne Arundel County residents have been charged in connection with the operation of a large, multi-state, drug trafficking organization that spanned from Maryland to California. Of the list of suspects arrested, two are from Arnold. Martin Dandy, 31, of Arnold has been charged by indictment with conspiring to distribute 1,000 kilograms or more of marijuana, and with conspiring to launder the drug proceeds. Alexandros Lineberry, 36, of Arnold, is charged by complaint with marijuana conspiracy. “The Drug Enforcement Administration, working in partnership with both federal and local law enforcement, including the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Maryland, are bringing to justice 18 members of a narcotic trafficking organization …

Bay Blues Festival Returns to Sandy Point in 2013

The 2013 festival will be held May 18-19 at Sandy Point State Park.

After some consideration, the operators of the Chesapeake Bay Blues Festival have decided to bring the all-star concert back to Broadneck this year. After last year's concert, the event's organizer Don Hooker said he was considering other venues. But recently, the official festival website was updated with good news: The show will be back at the same venue this year. "It really is the best place in the world for a Blues Festival," Hooker said on the website. The 2013 festival will be held on May 18-19 at Sandy Point State Park. In May, the 15th annual Bay Blues Festival helped raise $30,000 for local charities, but that amount was considered "disappointing," according to a press release issued after the event. Other venues were being …

'Real Housewives of Cape St. Claire' Shirts a Hit Online

A T-Shirt design parodying the "Real Housewives" TV series has proven to be a hit on Facebook.

Does reading about local drama online ever remind you of the "Real Housewives" shows? A Facebook joke about the drama that goes on in Cape St. Claire turned into a phenomenon when a resident turned the parody into a T-shirt. John Bloh, a member of the "I Live in Cape St. Claire" Facebook group, said someone made a comment about two women who were seen fighting in the street—"Sounds like the Real Housewives of Cape St. Claire," Bloh recalled. Bloh thought that sounded like a fun shirt, so he asked if anyone was interested in buying a few, planning on selling maybe a dozen of the novelty shirts. But the idea took off. A local company named Hank’s Corner LLC helped Bloh screen the images onto a shirt. Now, Bloh is preparing nearly 60 of the …

Broadneck Swimmers Undefeated So Far

BHS swimmers swept their last tri-meet and will swim again on Friday.

The Broadneck girls and boys swim teams improved to 4-0 this season after beating Old Mill and Northeast high schools Friday. The BHS boys bested Old Mill by just 10 points, 52-42, but handily knocked off Northeast 83-10. The Broadneck girls beat Old Mill 74-20 and Northeast by a 64-29. Old Mill boys and girls both bested their Northeast opponents 83-10.

New Verizon Cell Tower Proposed at BHS

The tower is intended to address poor reception for Cape St. Claire residents.

Are you a Verizon wireless customer in Cape St. Claire with bad cell service? Things are looking up for you. A 130-foot wireless pole is proposed to be erected this year at Broadneck High School to accommodate Verizon Wireless and four additional carriers, according to a plan reviewed by the school board this month. "Verizon Wireless (VZW) is addressing a gap in wireless service coverage and capacity in the Cape St. Claire community. Upon evaluating siting alternatives, VZW has identified the Broadneck High School site as its primary candidate for a cellular site," according to the document. The tower will be built between the athletics field and the practice field near 80-feet tall light posts as a way to diminish the visual impact. The …
