Bonnie Raitt is scheduled to perform at the annual blues festival later this month.
This month's Chesapeake Bay Blues Festival, set to have Bonnie Raitt as a headliner, has set a ticket sales record for the festival's 13-year history. According to promoters, the previous sales record was held by the concert's premiere in 1998, with Little Feat headlining the event. In addition to Bonnie Raitt, this year's event includes Bad Influence, Mavis Staples, Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue. "More than setting records, a lot of good will happen for four very special causes with the money raised," said the event's promoter, Don Hooker. After some consideration, the operators of the Chesapeake Bay Blues Festival have decided to bring the all-star concert back to Broadneck this year. After last year's concert, the event's organizer Don Hooker said he was considering other venues. But recently, the official festival website was updated with good news: The show will be back at the same venue this year. "It really is the best place in the world for a Blues Festival," Hooker said on the website. The 2013 festival will be held on May 18-19 at Sandy Point State Park. The festival's officials are considering changing locations next year as a cost-savings measure.
The Chesapeake Bay Blues Festival isn't just about great food, drinks and an all-star cast of musicians. The concert also helps to raise money for local charities. In May, the 15th annual Bay Blues Festival helped raise $30,000 for local charities, according to a release issued this week. However, the amount raised was referred to as, "somewhat disappointing" by festival staff in the release. According to the festival website, more than $900,000 has been raised since the event began in 1998. "Although the income was somewhat disappointing, we are still pleased that we were able to make contributions to these worthwhile causes," the release stated. With the addition of the Tedeschi Trucks Band, the lineup for the 2012 Chesapeake Bay Blues Festival is complete. Thousands of blues lovers headed our way last weekend for the 10th Chesapeake Bay Blues Festival at Sandy Point State Park. Started by music lover and philanthropist Don Hooker, the event was a fundraiser for Special Olympics of Maryland, We Care and Friends, the Johns Hopkins Cleft & Craniofacial Center, and Special Love, a camp for children suffering from cancer. Attendees enjoyed the talents of musicians like Otis Taylor, Chris Isaak, and Kenny Wayne Shepherd.
