Goats to Help With Cleanup at Lake Claire This Weekend

The animals will be helping to remove phragmites from Lake Claire.

A pair of friendly goats will help clear an invasive species of grass in Cape St. Claire on Sunday.

The goats come courtesy of Eco-Goats, a Davidsonville-based company that uses goats as an environmentally-friendly way of clearing overgrown areas.

The animals will be helping to remove phragmites from Lake Claire, where they are infringing on the local environment, says Kathleen Mooneyhan, who is helping organize the Sunday cleanup.

"We've been battling invasive phragmites in a number of cleanups," Mooneyhan said. "But these goats are just a great visual for the kids and families to come and see how nature' supposed to work."

In addition to clearing out invasive phragmites, the Friends of Lake Claire will also be planting native species around the lake.
