Skull Washes Ashore in Broadneck

Authorities are attempting to confirm if the remains were human.

The remains of a skull were found near Deep Creek  Pier in Broadneck on Thursday, Anne Arundel police said.

Lt. TJ Smith of the Anne Arundel County Police Department said a piece of a skull was found Thursday afternoon, and it has been sent to the Chief Medical Examiner's Office in Baltimore for examination.

Smith said they are still attempting to determine if the remains were human, and if so, who they belonged to.

"We can't confirm if it's human remains at this time," Smith said.

The remains appeared to have washed ashore from the nearby waterway, Smith said. The Department of Natural Resources assisted with the investigation with the Anne Arundel County Criminal Investigation Division Thursday.
