Greetings From the Cape!

Hello all you "Patched In" Broadneck folks!

The Cape Blogger is pleased to be featured as one of the new bloggers here at this energetic online news organization. I have been blogging about life in Cape St. Claire for nearly a year, and I’m excited to have this opportunity to interact with more of my fellow Capers who have tuned into this great new local resource.

I started blogging last summer on a whim. I’ve always enjoyed writing but did not have the background to pursue one of my several fantasy careers as a journalist (others include astronaut and Olympic athlete - equally unqualified). I was intrigued by the new phenomenon of the “blogosphere” and couldn’t resist giving it a try for myself. The natural focus was on my life and experiences as a resident in Cape St. Claire. Here’s how I kicked it off last August:

“Welcome to my Cape St. Claire blog! I thought I'd play around with posting my thoughts, musings and observations on life in one of the Chesapeake Bay's finest communities. We are just north of the Bay Bridge on a peninsula of land bordered by the Little Magothy River, the Chesapeake Bay, the Magothy River and Deep Creek. My husband and I have lived here since we married in 1993 and bought our first home near Broadneck High School. In 2000, we moved a mile down the road to a place on Deep Creek. After 17 years of married life in the Cape, we have two kids (Henry-11 and Kathryn-12 yrs), two dogs (Maggie, a 6-year old Great Dane and Laika, a 4-month old Australian Shepherd), a cat called Dinky, and some fish to show for our time here. To say this community is "water privileged" is a tremendous understatement. We are fortunate to have three marinas, one boat ramp, and two lovely beaches at our disposal. I've yet to see a community with such terrific access to the Bay. We are truly delighted to be raising our family in such a wonderful place.”

That is all still accurate, although my husband and I have one more year of marriage under our belts, the kids and pets are a year older, and we have one or two less fish. I, of course, have not aged a day… This area continues to provide just about everything my husband and I ask of it and more. We still consider ourselves fortunate to live in this unpolished gem of a community in the Annapolis area.

The intent of the Cape Blogger, even more so now through Patch, is to have a two-way conversation with Capers and our Broadneck neighbors – not to just ramble on in a one-way direction. My perspective is just one, but it's the combined perspective of us all that interests me and has value to us as a community. My blog posts are merely a jumping off point.  I look forward to sharing my Cape experience with you here at Broadneck Patch and hearing yours in return.

My blog site includes a page with my “Mission Statement.” Although a little formal (my blog certainly is not) I think it sums up my blogging platform well enough to repeat it here. It states:

“The Cape Blogger was created to highlight the shared experiences and concerns of the residents of Cape St. Claire, MD from the perspective of someone who has made her home in the Cape since 1993. The eclectic waterfront community of nearly 3000 homes and over 8000 people is one of the largest in the Annapolis area, sitting on a peninsula bordered by Deep Creek, the Magothy River, the Chesapeake Bay, and the Little Magothy River. Capers are fortunate to have some of the best schools and water privileges in the area. More importantly, despite a diverse blend of backgrounds, we are fortunate to share a true sense of community based on the common ground we tread and the common ground of our priorities. The Cape Blogger hopes to celebrate and encourage that common ground by tapping into the strength of community that defines our neighborhood.”

Thank you to the Broadneck Patch for inviting me to join this exciting new venture and facilitating my goal as a blogger. Cape St. Claire and the Broadneck Peninsula are better for the news and information provided by this organization. I think the Broadneck Patch and the Cape Blogger are a terrific fit with respect to our audience and scope. I am happy to contribute in my way to bringing Capers and our neighbors together through this site so that we may know each other better and fully appreciate this very special area.
