Firefighters: No Working Smoke Alarms at Site of Cape House Fire

Anne Arundel County firefighters released new information on the fire that destroyed a home in Cape St. Claire on Sunday

County firefighters said smoke alarms were not functioning at the home on River Bay Road when a fire broke out on Sunday.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The fire caused an estimated $160,000 in damages, and took 40 firefighters 30 minutes to bring the blaze under control on Sunday morning, according to a press release from fire officials Tuesday.

The incident was reported by an occupant who was in the home at the time of the fire, according to the press release.

One adult suffered minor injuries in the blaze, and was transported to Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis for treatment.

According to the press release, six adults and three children were living at the residence, and were displaced as a result of the fire destroying the home.
